Waddock jubilant as Shots go up
Aldershot manager Gary Waddock has expressed his delight at guiding his side to the Football League.
The former Queens Park Rangers boss was only appointed at The Recreation Ground in the summer but he has sealed promotion at the first time of asking and in comprehensive fashion.
The Shots are on 98 points, 13 clear of nearest rivals Torquay, who have four games remaining.
Aldershot's promotion was confirmed after they drew at Exeter on Tuesday and Waddock spoke after the all-important point was gained.
"We are delighted, we wanted to get league status back and I am so pleased for everyone at the club," he told Sky Sports News.
"It is down to hard work, me and Martin [Kuhl] started the season on day one, we wanted promotion and the players have worked so hard and I am just delighted for the chairman, directors and the fans who have been great this season.
"The backing we have had from day one at Kidderminster, the fans have been great.
"There has been a buzz around the club and town for a number of weeks but we had to get over the finishing line and we have done that now."
Waddock is already being linked with bigger clubs but he intends to guide Aldershot in League Two.
"I signed a two-year contract, I have done a year and got a year to go so I am looking forward to going into the league," he insisted.
"I am just so pleased with what we have achieved, I have got a fantastic assistant in Martin Kuhl and fantastic players."
