Mansour Assoumani
Wrexham 0-1 Altrincham
Altrincham edged closer to mathematical safety with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground on Monday afternoon.
Both sides could be blamed for trying a little too hard to impress as the match was a scrappy affair, frustrating the supporters in the stands.
The home side came closest to scoring in the first half, but a mixture of poor finishing and good defending made sure the teams went into the break on level terms.
The deadlock was broken shortly into the second period when Dragons defender Aurelien Collin headed the ball into his own net.
Robins defender Matt Doughty lofted a free kick into the home side's penalty area and the Frenchman was unfortunate enough to get the last touch on the ball.
The match took a sour turn in the 84th minute when Wrexham's Mansour Assoumani was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident involving Altrincham's Chris Denham.
The victory moves the Robins to within touching distance of securing their Blue Square Premier status, while the Dragons are now left to fight for a top ten finish.
