Matt Doughty
Altrincham snap up Doughty
Former Halifax Town utility-man Matt Doughty has joined Blue Square Premier club Altrincham.
Doughty, who is able to play as a left-sided defender or midfielder, began his professional career at the age of 16. His first club was Chester City where he went on to make 70 appearances, scoring two goals.
He moved onto fellow League Two outfit Rochdale in 2001 making 108 appearances and had a trial with Championship side Southampton. But injury struck and Doughty missed half of the season with a broken leg.
The 26-year-old joined the Shaymen in July 2004 and established himself as their first choice left-back. Despite Doughty suffering another broken leg, he managed to make 131 appearances for the club.
