Steve Evans
Crawley Town 1-0 Cambridge United
Crawley Town kept their play-off hopes alive with a slender 1-0 victory over Cambridge United at the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils have an early strike from midfielder Barry Cogan to thank for the victory as they managed to hang on for a much-needed victory.
The home side got off to the best possible start when Cogan dispossessed Aiden Palmer before firing the ball past Laurie Walker in the U's goal.
The early goal seemed to boost United rather than Crawley as the visitors played the better football for much of the first period.
Danny Crow had a great chance to equalise but his stinging effort was excellent saved by Simon Rayner before the break.
The second period saw the visitors on the front foot again, but they failed to really test Rayner in the home goal.
Crawley should have doubled their advantage when Charles Ademeno and Karl Broadhurst went close, but it was not to be as the match ended with a 1-0 victory for Steve Evans' Red Devils.
The Red Devils stay in tenth position but move on to 42 points, while Cambridge United find themselves in 15th place, not too far ahead of the relegation dogfight.
