Versatile Clarke joins York City
Blue Square Premier side York City have signed Grimsby Town midfielder Jamie Clarke.
The former Mansfield Town, Rochdale and Boston United player joins for the rest of the season with Minstermen boss Martin Foyle revealing his delight at the capture.
He told BBC Radio York: "There was interest in Clarke from other clubs but he's delighted to be coming here.
"He can play anywhere across the middle and also drop into the back four."
26-year-old midfielder Andy Ferrell has meanwhile left the club with Foyle giving him his blessing.
He said: "Gateshead came in for Fez, I gave Andy the option and he came in asking to go.
"They've offered him a good deal financially, more than we can afford, and they've offered him next year and the year after if he plays 20 games. I felt I couldn't stand in his way.
"He'll be missed in certain ways, but it's my job to fill the holes."
In other news Michael Emmerson has had his contract terminated after several spells out on loan.
Foyle concluded: "We've got to push one or two of the other younger players through to train with us now, with a view to contracts in the summer."
