Cambridge 0-1 York
Martin Foyle's York City made it nine straight league victories with a hard fought win over mid-table Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday.
The Minstermen made it nine straight wins for the first time in their history, while in contrast, Cambridge suffered their fifth straight league defeat.
The encounter started at a slow pace but slowly came to life as the visitors created a handful of good chances to break the deadlock.
Their best chance arrived in the 22nd minute when Richard Brodie latched onto a flicked pass from strike partner Michael Rankine but somehow managed to fire wide of the target.
That missed chance seemed to spark Cambridge into life and they too, came close to breaking the deadlock just moments later.
Robbie Willmott fired a shot at goal which took a deflection off Daniel Parslow before goalkeeper Michael Ingham tipped it around his right-hand post.
Willmott had another chance minutes later but, once again, his shot flew harmlessly off target from just 12 yards out.
However, York soaked up the pressure and claimed the lead three minutes after the half-time break when Rankine pulled the ball back for Neil Barrett, who fired a powerful effort into the top-right corner from outside the area.
Lee Phillips had a glorious opportunity to put his side back on level terms later on but he fired wide of the target, much to the dismay of the home supporters.
