Wayne Carlisle
Carlisle Confident ahead of final
Torquay United's Wayne Carlisle says his side's laid-back preparations for the Blue Square play-off final on Sunday will play out in their favour.
The game will be the winger's third consecutive play-off final after he played in the Exeter City team that loss to Morecambe two season's ago and in the Grecians side that beat Cambridge 1-0 in last season.
He told the Westernmorningnews: "The important thing is to remember that the focus this week is all about winning the match, beating Cambridge, if nothing else.
"Yes it's at Wembley and that's fantastic for the fans but our priority remains the same as it always is . . . winning the game of football. Everything else is secondary."
"Ultimately I think the key, the secret to any success is good preparation and we have got that right this week.
"You have got to prepare in the right way and be organised and on the day that should benefit you. I think we have got it spot-on to be honest and when it's like that you are giving yourselves the best possible chance, and that is all any of us can ask."
The former Northern Ireland U21 international also feels that past results will mean nothing on the day.
He continued: "They finished second in the league and so you have to respect that and we have played them twice so we know about them but they will know about us, and respect us.
"In football you always look ahead and past results don't matter. It's what happens on Sunday that counts and that's where our focus now lies."
