Oxford Utd 1-1 York

Oxford United lost further ground in the promotion race after they played out a 1-1 draw against York City at the Kassam Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Jim Smith's side can even count themselves rather fortunate not to lose after U's goalkeeper Billy Turley saved Stuart Elliott's penalty on the half-hour mark.

And after condeding that penalty Michael Corcoran then made amends for the home side, opening the scoring by heading in Alex Jeannin's free-kick.

However, Billy McEwan's side controlled the game for long spells and got their just desserts when Martyn Woolford's cross was headed home by Onome Sodje nine minutes from time.

The result leaves Oxford 12 points adrift of Blue Square Premier leaders Torquay and five points from the play-off places in ninth place. York's point does not help them much down in 19th position.
