Grant: Bagged a brace Oxford Utd 2-3 AldershotGary Waddock's Aldershot Town edged out Oxford United by a single goal at Kassam Stadium on Saturday after ending the first half with a two-goal lead.
The visitors were awarded a penalty kick in the 14th minute when Oxford's Arthur Gnohere was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and John Grant coolly slotted home the resulting spot kick.
Grant was on hand again in the 43rd minute to convert an inviting pass from Louis Soares on the right-hand channel and give his side a comfortable two-goal lead.
However, Oxford boss Jim Smith must have had some choice words for his under-performing side at half-time as they came out on firing on all cylinders.
Alex Jeannin virtually scored from the kick-off as he found the back of the net after just nineteen seconds.
Oxford's Paul Shaw made it 2-2 in the 55th minute with a fantastic volleyed right-footed effort at the left-hand side of the penalty.
But Aldershot's Lewis Chalmers had the final say as he headed in a Scott Davies corner kick with minutes to spare.
