Woking 1-2 Altrincham

Graham Heathcote's Altrincham got their season off to a great start with a 2-1 win over Woking at Kingfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The match was short on any real clearcut chances with both sides resorting to shooting from outside the box.

The visitors broke the deadlock just before the half-time whistle when Dale Johnson's 18-yard effort was parried by Woking goalkeeper Ross Warner and Alex Meechan slotted home the loose ball.

Woking were focused on the task at hand and drew level in the 65th minute thanks to a close range finish by Joel Ledgister.

Ledgister came close to doubling his and Woking's tally in the 81st minute but his shot from the centre of the penalty area was blocked by Matthew Doughty.

He was made to rue what could have been as Altrincham's experienced striker Colin Little popped up to net the winning goal in the 90th minute.
