Billy McEwan Grays Athletic 0-2 YorkYork City picked up all three points against Grays Athletic at Recreation Ground on Saturday with the referee brandishing three red cards in a heated encounter.
The visitors wasted a great chance to open the scoring after home centre-back Jamie Stuart was sent-off for a clash with Chris Beardsley, who suffered a suspected double-fracture of the jaw.
But keeper Ross Flitney saved Mark Robinson's 20th minute penalty.
The Minstermen did take the lead just before the interval when striker Onome Sodje headed his third goal of the season from Martyn Woolford's corner.
Robinson was then dismissed just after the hour before recalled midfielder Stuart Elliott's 65th minute effort was diverted into his own net by Jon Ashton.
York substitute Richard Brodie became the third player to be sent-off with fifteen minutes remaining but the visitors held on.
York boss Billy McEwan will undoubtedly be happy with the result as his side move out of the drop zone and into 20th place with eight points.
