Grays hand goalie Whincup the gloves

Grays Athletic have released goalkeeper Danny Knowles to fellow Blue Square Premier side Fisher Athletic and signed Jake Whincup as his replacement.

Knowles has failed to impress manager Micky Woodward this season and has struggled to secure a starting berth despite the long-term injury of first-choice keeper Ross Flitney.

He will link up with the Fish on a loan deal until the end of the season - with a view to a permanent move.

Whincup arrives from Ryman Division One North outfit Arlesey and is expected tobe named as a substitute for Thursday's clash against Droylsden.

The stopper enjoyed a spell as a trainee with Championship side Norwich and is relishing the opportunity of increased first-team football.
