The Shay Halifax 3-2 TorquayFootball supporters were treated to an entertaining evening of football with Halifax Town edging out Torquay United in a five-goal thriller at The Shay.
The Shaymen drew first blood after eight minutes when Jon Shaw headed a Matthew Doughty cross into the top-right corner from 12 yards out.
Doughty turned goalscorer in the 43rd minute and showed great composure by drilling the ball into the bottom-left corner with a 30-yard strike.
The hosts were cruising just minutes after the restart as Jon Shaw headed in a Doughty cross at the right-hand side of the six-yard box.
However, they took their foot off the gas after that and were made to pay for it.
Torquay's Lee Phillips pulled one back with a well-struck 25-yard effort on 65 minutes and doubled his tally eight minutes later to set up a tense finish.
